Bulgaria at Slow Wine Fair 2025: a strong presence and a clear focus on sustainable wine
For the third time and second year in a row, Bulgarian wines were presented at the Slow Wine Fair – one of the leading international events dedicated to good, clean, and fair wine. This participation was made possible thanks to the consistent support of the Bulgarian Association of Wine Professionals (BAWP) and Mastercard, which are working to make the Bulgarian wine sector more sustainable, competitive, and recognizable on the world stage.
The Slow Wine Fair, organized by Slow Food and Bologna Fiere, took place between February 23 and 25, 2025, in Bologna. Following its successful participation in 2024, when visitors had the opportunity to taste wines from six Bulgarian wineries, interest in Bulgaria continued to grow this year. The BAWP stand featured the wineries Ahinora, Bratanov, Odessos, Bottled Opinions, and Alexandra.
During the three-day exhibition, their wines attracted the attention of a select and discerning audience – professionals, sommeliers, importers, journalists, and connoisseurs seeking authentic products with a clear terroir message. Representatives of Bulgarian wineries participated in numerous meetings and discussions, emphasizing their understanding of sustainable winemaking, the importance of natural processes, and the role of wine as a cultural narrative of terroir.
Bulgaria's participation in 2022, 2024, and 2025 shows a gradually developing, more focused, and unified position on the international wine map. It is an important step towards recognizing the country as a destination where sustainable production and respect for nature are becoming the basis for development.
BAWP would like to thank everyone who visited the stand and showed interest in Bulgarian wines. We would also like to thank Mastercard for their support, which enabled our winemakers to present the natural and responsible face of Bulgarian wine to a global audience.
Participation in Slow Wine Fair 2025 ended with the confidence that Bulgarian wines take their deserved place among European producers who choose a sustainable approach as their vision for the future. This is just the beginning of the road to an even broader international presence and to establishing Bulgaria as a country with a distinctive style, impressive stories, and wine that speaks with its own voice.
